January 2023 marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, as I started my job at bunq, a company that was making waves in the fintech industry. I was hired as a First Line Guide, ready to embark on an exciting adventure. One month ago I found myself in the role of a Second Line Guide. Today, I want to take you back to that very first day, when I was filled with nervous excitement and surrounded by the warmest of colleagues.
As the first team to launch the Istanbul office, my colleagues and I felt like pioneers, venturing into the unknown to bring bunq’s innovative vision to a new corner of the world. I couldn’t help but feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulders. The anticipation of what may lay ahead, mixed with the thrill of being part of such a groundbreaking team, made for an unforgettable start to my journey at bunq.
On my first day, I arrived at the Istanbul office with a bundle of nerves, ready to embrace all the challenges and opportunities. However, my initial excitement was met with a minor hiccup – the first two MacBooks I received seemed to have some technical issues. While any other workplace might have made this a stressful situation, the atmosphere at bunq was different. What impressed me most was the kindness and camaraderie of my colleagues. Instead of panicking or making me feel like a burden, they came together to solve the problem swiftly. Without hesitation, they provided me with a third MacBook that worked flawlessly. This gesture illustrated the company’s commitment to ensuring a smooth onboarding experience, and fostering a sense of unity within the team. The rest of the day was a whirlwind of introductions, training, and absorbing information about bunq’s culture and values. The First Line Guide role involved assisting bunq’s customers with their queries and providing solutions to their financial needs.
