First Things First: Who Can Open a Bank Account?

We’re active in many countries within the European Economic Area (EEA). All EEA citizens over 18, residing in countries we operate in, can sign up for bunq. If you’re not a European citizen but live in one of these countries, you’re eligible too!

Ukrainian citizens who have become refugees due to the ongoing conflict are also eligible to open a Bank Account.

If you’re under 18 and live in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, or Italy, you can also open a Bank Account. However, you’ll need permission from a legal guardian who also has a Bank Account (even a free one works!).

How Do I Open an Account?

• Select a document to verify your identity.

• Photograph both sides of your document.

• Done! We’ll review your details shortly.

Once everything is verified, you can start enjoying the bunq plan you chose. Your first 30 days are free. After that, you pay for your plan unless you switch to another one or cancel, which you can do anytime, for free.
