What do you do at bunq?
I catch bad guys for a living! I like finding patterns and mentoring youngsters, so they can do the same one day. I’m also developing the compliance team here in Sofia, and doing my best to share my knowledge with fellow bunqers.
What does it mean to be part of bunq’s compliance team?
We have one mission and one mission only - protect and serve. Without the violence, of course. It's quite a unique experience to work in compliance at bunq, it never gets boring - and it’s worth it . You get to work with so many motivated professionals from which you can learn every day.
How does it impact the outer world?
Everyone working in compliance, in or outside of bunq, should pride themselves on the fact that by doing their work diligently they constantly help people. We don’t just help users with losing their funds to scammers, but also fight people involved in human and drug trafficking among many other crimes.
What are the occurring trends within this field?
I cannot give much information here because...you know, the line of work and all. Fraudsters are actually quite smart people and they’re always checking such information to bypass our defences. I encourage users and readers to always double check everything related to digital payments. If something seems off or if a deal looks too good to be true, always, always Google it. If it’s a scam, you’ll find out in one simple search most of the time. You can always consult with us as well if you are in doubt! We’re all in this together.
Advice for people in the same industry?
Connect, network, share information and knowledge with your colleagues. We have the same goal and we can achieve it so much faster and better if we work together. I always encourage continuous learning and reading. Due to the pandemic, fraudsters upped their game on phishing, dating and e-commerce scams. They’re always looking for what is hot and target those groups. For example, due to the crypto and investing boom in the last couple of months, I would say we will see a surge of related crimes in those fields. Watch out!
Thanks for sharing, Velislav! And keep on keeping us all safe!
